CAS:356-42-3 | Pentafluoropropionic anhydride ,Description

Pentafluoropropionic anhydride (PFPA) is an organic compound belonging to the family of anhydrides. It is a colorless, volatile liquid with a pungent odor. PFPA is a useful reagent in organic synthesis and has been used in a variety of applications ranging from drug discovery to industrial processes. PFPA is also used as a catalyst in the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds.

Scientific Research Applications

  • PFPA was used to study the degradation of a dodecapeptide by vapor at low temperatures, revealing its potential in peptide analysis (Tsugita, Takamoto, & Satake, 1992).
  • In toxicological analysis, PFPA was compared with other derivatives for the determination of codeine and morphine, highlighting its utility in forensic science (Chen, Taylor, & Pappas, 1990).
  • PFPA was used in the reaction with melatonin to create a volatile product for gas chromatographic analysis, indicating its role in the study of melatonin derivatives (Blau, King, & Sandler, 1977).
  • It efficiently catalyzed the synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyran derivatives, demonstrating its applicability in organic synthesis (Montazeri, Noghani, Ghorchibeigy, & Zoghi, 2014).
  • PFPA has been utilized in the preparation of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE) from the pyrolysis of pentafluoropropionate salts, showing its role in chemical engineering and industrial applications (Hercules et al., 2017).
  • In veterinary medicine, PFPA was employed for the determination of mefenamic acid levels in horse blood and urine, underscoring its relevance in veterinary drug monitoring (Bland, Blake, & Ray, 1976).
  • PFPA was compared with other reagents for the determination of type B trichothecenes in wheat grain, emphasizing its importance in agricultural research and food safety (Valle-Algarra et al., 2005).
  • In the field of analytical chemistry, PFPA was compared with other derivatizing agents for the analysis of amphetamines in oral fluid, highlighting its application in drug testing and forensic analysis (Mohamed & Bakdash, 2017).
